  • Characteristics: the ostrich is the largest living bird. It is tall, and males can weigh 150 kg. It does not fly, using its wings instead for intimidation, mating dances and for sheltering its young. It can maintain a running speed of 50 km/h for long periods of time, sometimes reaching up to 70 km/h in 9-metre-long strides

  • Anecdote: the male, who is often polygamus, will dig a hole in the ground into which each of his females will come and lay about 10 eggs. Each eggs has a particularly solid shell and weighs 1 kg
