The Yack

Status: wild population is vulnerable
(less than 10 00 individuals) due to abusive hunting. Domestic yack are abundant and used to carry things.
Life span: 20 years
Characteristics: the wild yack is a robust ruminant which lives in the mountains of Tibet. After a nine-month gestation period, the female gives birth to a single calf.
Meal: it eats grass and weighs up to 600 kg.
Anecdote: in summer, the yacks at Planète Sauvage like dipping their bellies in water to cool down.
