Conservation activities
The Tursiops dolphin, or Bottlenose Dolphin is not an endangered species, but its presence makes it possible to raise awareness regarding the dangers faced by marine mammals. One of Planète Sauvage’s strategies for its contribution to conservation is through its support to research programs (Yagu Pacha) and associations such as SOS Dolfijn:

  • Yagu Pacha: Created in 1992, the Yagu Pacha Association is an environmental protection organisation based in Germany. Its objective: to protect South America’s aquatic mammals and preserve their environment. Martin Böye, the Scientific Manager at Planète Sauvage is the President of this association’s French satellite. Planète Sauvage focuses its efforts on the La Plata dolphin, a small little-known dolphin that is an endangered species.
  • - S.O.S Dolfijn is a rehabilitation and research centre based in the Netherlands for porpoise and other small stranded cetaceans. The animals are cared for in the centre until they are ready to be re-released into the wild. S.O.S Doljijn has been an independent foundation since 2005

Planète Sauvage has been financing a conservation project together with the association Attention Mer Fragile since autumn 2008. The project, in the Bourgneuf Bay, aims to detect the presence of marine mammals (porpoise, dolphin) and to understand their migration patterns. Underwater tags make it possible to track their sounds for more than 6 months. Regular readings mean exhaustive analysis reports can be produced.
