Squirrel monkey

A group of squirrel monkeys can consist of up to 300 individuals. These monkeys live in organised communities. They live in the trees where they move around with great agility. The offspring are born in the rainy season when food is at its most plentiful.

They like sugary, juicy fruits, buds as well as eggs and small vertebrates. They themselves are the favourite prey of big eagles.

Squirrel monkeys are one of the rare monkeys that do not hold group delousing sessions. Each monkey cleans itself.
