The Planète Sauvage dolphins
The Marine City dolphins are Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops Truncatus). This year, they can be seen with their handlers at displays that take place at different times throughout the day. This experience, unique to France’s Western region, will give you the chance to learn what a dolphin really is: its anatomy, how it communicates, its feeding habits, its social life. The Planète Sauvage team will share the highlights of the life of a pod of dolphins with you.
- The males: Péos, Mininos and Cécil
- The females: Amtan and Théa

Dolphins for Studying, Education and Protection
Planète Sauvage is running an expansive program surrounding the dolphins that will contribute to protection, education and research. Displaying the dolphins will provide the opportunity to better understand the dangers facing marine mammals and the simple gestures that will help to better protect them.
The animal team, including a Scientific and Teaching Manager, a Veterinary, a marine mammal certified handler and 6 keepers lead the activities which they have all established themselves. Their most important task is to ensure the animals wellbeing which is achieved primarily through the development of a harmonious relationship with the animal keepers.
The animal team works in close collaboration with recognised experts in the scientific field: The Nantes Veterinary School and the team of ethnologists at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and the Ethnology department of Rennes University, in order to understand the dolphin’s whistling communication. It also organises and coordinates conservation activities in the Bourgneuf Bay. These actions’ successes mean that you are able to contribute towards the protection of marine mammals.
