- 30 to 50% of African lion population has disappeared since the last 20 years due to their territories reduction and cohabitation problems with farmers.
- Life span: 20 – 25 years.
- Characteristics: this big cat is a social animal which lives in prides made up of several individuals. The lion can weigh as much as 200 kg and the lioness between 120 and 150 kg. It hunts at night on the savannah and rests during the day for between 15 and 18 hours at a time. The lioness gives birth to up to 6 cubs after a gestation period of 3 months.
- Anecdote : lions use their roar to communicate with several other individuals over several kilometres distances.
