the white pelican

The White Pelican

White pelicans are large birds with a wingspan of 2.5 - 3.5m. They can weigh up to 14kg. They are one of the heaviest birds able to fly.
Anecdote: To satisfy their appetite, they have developed a very efficient hunting technique. The pelicans form a semi-circle and move forwards in unison with their beaks in the water. Then they use the pocket of skin under their beaks as a type of net.
